How much does pool heater repair cost?
A service call is $140 local, or $160 in Palm Bay (including Grant), Melbourne Beach, and Titusville. It covers diagnosis and repair on the same visit, with no separate diagnostic fee.
We price repair after diagnosis, because one symptom can trace to several different parts.
What moves a repair bill:
- The fault, and the part it needs.
- Labor time at the heater.
- Access at the equipment pad.
- Club membership: 20% off repair labor.

How much does pool heater installation cost?
We quote each install, because the heater, its gas or electrical supply and the pad work differ at every pool.
Replacing a heater
Reusing the existing plumbing and fuel service can limit the work. The new heater's type and size set the equipment cost.
Adding a heater to an existing pool
Equipment, plumbing, fuel or electrical work, access and pad conditions set the installed price.
Hoping a smaller heater saves a thousand or two? That's a sizing question — see how we size heaters.
| Work | Price | What sets the number |
|---|---|---|
| Service call | $140 local, $160 in the towns listed | Your town: $160 in Palm Bay (including Grant), Melbourne Beach, and Titusville, $140 local. Diagnosis and repair on the same visit, no separate diagnostic fee |
| Repair | Quoted after diagnosis | The fault, the part it needs, labor time and access at the pad |
| Replacement | Quoted per job | The new heater's type and size, and how much existing plumbing and fuel service it can reuse |
| First installation | Quoted per job | The heater, a gas line or electrical circuit, plumbing and pad work |
| Running cost | Set by your utility bill | The heater's rating × the hours it runs × your rate |
| Commercial | Commercial quote | Heater count, fuel and operating schedule — see commercial heater cost |
What changes the final price?
Surface area, the gas or electrical service at your pad, and the heater you choose move the number most.
| Driver | What it changes |
|---|---|
| The pool | Surface area, volume and a screen enclosure drive heat loss; your target temperature sets the capacity you need. |
| Heater type and size | Gas or electric heat pump, and its capacity, set the equipment line. |
| Gas service |
A gas line must match the heater's BTU load; propane needs a tank and regulator.
We're licensed for the gas line too, so one crew handles it. |
| Electrical service | A heat pump needs a dedicated circuit and breaker capacity matched to the unit. |
| Plumbing and pad | A replacement into existing plumbing can limit work; a first install may add plumbing and pad work. |
| Access | Equipment-pad access can change labor and site work. |
Is the electric hookup what makes a heat pump quote expensive?
It can be: a heat pump needs a dedicated circuit sized to the unit, and a full panel adds work. A fair quote lists that circuit separately from the heater.
The circuit itself is an electrician's work. Have them confirm the panel, breaker and wire before the unit is bought.
Price it with a person
Tell us the heater and the pad, and we'll quote it.
"Nat/Pro has always been quick to respond for service requests and when my pool heater finally died they gave me a great price and service on a new one. Reliable, honest and fast. Can't ask for more than that!"
Is my pool heater quote fair?
It's fair when it names the heater model and size and lists the site work. A total alone, like $5,300 or $6,000, can't be judged.
An itemized quote shows these lines. Check the ones on yours:
Two quotes compare only when their lists match.

How much does heating a pool cost?
The heater's hourly fuel or power use, times the hours it runs, times your utility rate. Hours depend on your pool, its enclosure and the weather.
Work out the hourly cost at full output from the heater's rating and your bill.
| Heater | Rating to read | Use per hour at full output | Multiply by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Natural gas | Input, BTU/hr | Input ÷ 100,000 = therms | Your gas rate per therm |
| Propane | Input, BTU/hr | Input ÷ 91,452 = gallons | Your propane price per gallon |
| Electric heat pump | Electrical input, kW | kW = kWh | Your electric rate per kWh |
Hours rise with surface area, an unscreened pool and a higher target temperature.
Which fuel costs less to run is a comparison, not a single number. See gas or heat pump.
Conversion factors: U.S. Energy Information Administration, British thermal units.
